The Insta360 X5 is for travellers and riders who want the freedom to choose a camera angle after an event has happened. Record a scene in 360, then follow a rider, turn the view towards the scenery or cut between both. It is especially useful when stopping to aim a conventional camera would interrupt the activity.

Choose spherical detail or slower playback
Use 8K30 for detailed 360 scenes and 5.7K60 when smoother motion or slower playback matters. The 4K120 spherical mode captures more frames with lower resolution. Single-lens 4K60 is available when you already know where to point the camera. The 8K figure covers the entire sphere, so a narrow reframed view has fewer pixels than the source recording.
A more considered low-light workflow
PureVideo is intended for lower-light scenes, while Active HDR addresses scenes with bright and dark areas. Neither makes every setting suitable for every situation. For a city walk, avoid chasing the highest frame rate when light is limited; test a short clip and inspect movement and noise before filming the whole route.
Replaceable lenses and a realistic shooting routine
The user-replaceable lens system is useful for a camera that travels on a pole or activity mount. It still pays to protect the glass, use a secure mount and cover the camera when it goes into a bag. FlowState and horizon levelling help the result, but cannot correct an insecure attachment or a badly placed stitch line.
Storage, water use and audio: check before you buy
- Storage: Insta360 X5 has no built-in recording storage. Use a compatible UHS-I V30 or faster microSD card from Insta360’s supported list; buy the card separately.
- Water use: The camera is rated waterproof to 15m. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance for seals, guards and underwater use; a suitable dive case helps address underwater 360 stitching.
- Audio: Compatible Bluetooth audio includes Insta360 Mic Air. Check the official compatibility list before buying a transmitter or adapter; it is not supplied with the camera.
