The DJI Matrice 4E price in Kenya is KShs 739,000. This compact enterprise drone is built around visible-light surveying, mapping and construction documentation. Its 20MP 4/3 wide camera has a mechanical shutter, supported by two tele cameras and a laser rangefinder. Choose it for photographic data capture; choose the DJI Matrice 4T when thermal inspection is the requirement. Matrice 4E does not have a thermal camera.

A mapping camera, not just a megapixel figure

The wide camera combines a 4/3 sensor, 24mm-equivalent lens and adjustable f/2.8–f/11 aperture. Its mechanical shutter helps reduce rolling-shutter distortion when the aircraft is moving during photographic capture. That can be more relevant to a photogrammetry workflow than choosing a consumer drone purely for a larger megapixel number. The wide camera supports JPEG and DNG RAW stills.

DJI specifies a minimum 0.5-second JPEG capture interval for Matrice 4E; JPEG plus RAW uses a minimum two-second interval. Choose the format and flight speed together so the required image overlap is maintained. Mechanical shutter capability does not eliminate the need for suitable exposure, focus, lighting and flight planning.

From flight route to useful survey output

Supported Smart Oblique and Smart 3D Capture workflows help collect views for mapping and modelling. Smart 3D Capture can use a rough model on the controller to support route generation around an irregular structure. The useful result still depends on coverage, ground sampling distance, image overlap, site conditions and processing quality. Plan the deliverable first—orthomosaic, site-progress record or a 3D model—then select the capture settings and verification process.

RTK-capable positioning supports precise flight and image positioning when a suitable correction source is available. A compatible base station or network correction service is a separate part of the workflow. RTK coordinate accuracy is not the same as guaranteed final map accuracy: independent checkpoints and appropriate survey controls remain important when the project requires them. Confirm the processing software and licence required for your output rather than assuming every software service is included with the aircraft.

Tele cameras and laser measurement

The 48MP 70mm-equivalent medium tele camera and 48MP 168mm-equivalent tele camera help examine structures from farther away. Their approximate 3x and 7x views are separate focal lengths relative to the wide camera, not one continuously zooming optical lens. Higher hybrid zoom settings use digital enlargement. These cameras complement the main mapping camera for visual checks and contextual detail; their still-photo format is JPEG.

The laser rangefinder measures up to 1,800m under DJI’s specified target conditions. It is useful for distance context and target location, but rain, fog and surface reflectivity affect its performance. Visible video reaches 4K/30fps. This system prioritises enterprise capture and measurement rather than high-frame-rate cinema recording.

Flight endurance and controller

Matrice 4E is rated for up to 49 minutes with standard propellers in windless forward-flight testing without added payload, continuing to battery depletion. Hovering, wind, accessories and a planned landing reserve reduce useful mission time. The standard aircraft weighs approximately 1,219g with battery, propellers and microSD card.

The supplied DJI RC Plus 2 Enterprise provides a 7.02-inch 1,400-nit screen and DJI Pilot 2 operation without requiring a phone as the display. O4 Enterprise handles the control and video link. Laboratory transmission distances should not be used as guaranteed working range. Omnidirectional binocular vision and downward infrared sensing assist the pilot, but do not guarantee avoidance of fine wires, transparent objects or poorly visible obstacles.

What the Standard Kit provides

The listed package includes the Matrice 4E aircraft, one Matrice 4 series battery, RC Plus 2 Enterprise, 100W USB-C power adapter, Matrice 4 charging hub, microSD card, gimbal protector, propellers, USB-C cables and a storage case with shoulder strap. The four-slot hub charges batteries sequentially; it does not contain four included batteries. Spare batteries can be useful for larger areas or repeated capture visits.

There is no internal recording storage. Use compatible U3/Class 10/V30 or better cards, confirm free space before a mission and keep a reliable backup process for survey imagery. Optional spotlight, speaker and RTK station are separate. DJI lists no standard ingress-protection level for Matrice 4E: do not treat it as the separate Matrice 4D dock aircraft or borrow the IP55 rating of DJI Matrice 400.
