DJI Matrice 400 Overview

The DJI Matrice 400 price in Kenya is KShs 1,604,000. This is a professional aircraft platform for teams building an inspection, mapping or response system around a selected payload. The listed Standard Kit uses DJI RC Plus 2 Enterprise Enhanced; a specialist mission camera is not included. If an integrated thermal camera is your priority, compare the smaller DJI Matrice 4T. Start with the payload and the deliverable

Matrice 400 supports compatible Zenmuse imaging and sensing payloads, including H30/H30T, L2, L3 and P1 in DJI’s current compatibility list. These serve different tasks: visual and thermal inspection, LiDAR capture or photographic mapping. A compatible payload, its mounting requirements and the software needed to process its data should be selected together. The aircraft’s FPV camera is for piloting awareness; it is not a substitute for a survey camera or a radiometric thermal payload.

The maximum 6kg payload figure applies to the third gimbal connector with the specified screw-lock attachment under sea-level conditions. It does not mean that every gimbal mount can carry 6kg. DJI lists separate limits for the single, dual and third connectors, and usable payload capacity decreases with altitude. Nairobi and higher-altitude field sites therefore need mission planning based on the actual take-off location and equipment load.

59-minute endurance with important conditions

DJI measured up to 59 minutes flying at a steady speed in windless, sea-level conditions with an H30T payload, continuing to battery depletion. That is not 59 minutes with a 6kg load, nor a guaranteed working mission with a return reserve. Hovering, wind, temperature, payload and route all affect available time. The aircraft weighs approximately 9.74kg with battery before adding a mission payload, with a maximum take-off weight of 15.8kg.

For field work, plan the return point, landing reserve, spare batteries and ground power as part of the kit. The 977Wh TB100 battery is substantial equipment in its own right; this platform requires a transport and charging plan rather than the packing assumptions used for a consumer camera drone.

Sensing for complex industrial surroundings

Omnidirectional binocular vision, rotating LiDAR, upper LiDAR, downward infrared sensing and six-direction mmWave radar provide several sources of environmental information. DJI specifies power-line sensing under defined test conditions, but no sensor system removes the need for a trained operator, safe separation and site assessment. Wire size, angle, lighting and environmental conditions matter. Radar availability can also vary by region.

The IP55 aircraft rating adds dust and water resistance for demanding work. It is not an immersion rating and can deteriorate with wear. Maintain seals and connectors, inspect equipment before deployment and follow the operating limits for the complete aircraft-and-payload combination.

Controller, positioning and operational workflow

DJI RC Plus 2 Enterprise Enhanced has a 7.02-inch 1920 × 1200 display rated at 1,400 nits and runs DJI Pilot 2. O4 Enterprise Enhanced supports mission video transmission, with dual-control and relay capabilities available for appropriate setups. Published maximum link distances are laboratory communication figures, not promised working range or permission to fly that distance.

RTK positioning can support precise operations when a suitable correction source is available. A compatible D-RTK station or network correction service, data connectivity where required and an appropriate processing workflow are separate considerations. RTK positioning accuracy alone does not guarantee the accuracy of a final map or inspection measurement.

Standard kit and charging equipment

The listed package includes the aircraft, DJI RC Plus 2 Enterprise Enhanced, a TB100 flight battery, BS100 Intelligent Battery Station, WB37 controller battery, carrying case and propeller/mounting accessories. The specialist camera, LiDAR payload, additional mounts and RTK base station should be specified separately for your project. Confirm the complete procurement list when ordering a working system.

BS100 supports TB100-series and WB37 batteries, with ready-to-fly and standard charging modes. DJI quotes approximately 45 minutes to fully charge a TB100 at 220V in fast mode under test conditions, compared with approximately 110 minutes in silent mode. The station’s substantial power demand must be allowed for when selecting field power. Its available channels do not mean all flight batteries receive maximum charging power simultaneously.

Who should choose Matrice 400?

Choose it when interchangeable payloads, heavier equipment and a robust enterprise flight platform justify the deployment effort. A team needing a compact integrated camera system may be better served by Matrice 4T or 4E. Build the purchase around the required output—inspection report, thermal assessment, point cloud or photogrammetric model—then match the aircraft, payload, batteries and software to that output.
