PlayStation 4 Slim 1TB

PlayStation 4 Slim Overview

The PlayStation 4 Slim price in Kenya is KShs 38,000. This compact disc-based console is aimed at buyers who want the established PS4 game library on a Full HD screen, with a DualShock 4 controller and a choice of 500GB or 1TB hard-drive storage. It is a practical choice for revisiting PS4 favourites or building a focused collection at a lower console budget. If you also want PS5 releases and faster SSD-based loading, compare the PlayStation 5 Slim, which also supports many PS4 games.

Who the PS4 Slim suits

The PS4 Slim makes sense when the games you want already have PS4 versions. It plays PS4 discs and eligible digital PS4 purchases, giving you a broad established catalogue to choose from. A smaller chassis makes it easier to place than the original PS4, although it still needs ventilation and room for cables.

It does not play PS5-only games. Before choosing it for a particular sports release, online game or new title, check that the exact edition is available for PS4 and that any required online service remains supported. Owning a PS4 is not a guarantee that every future release or multiplayer server will remain available.

500GB or 1TB: choose by the library you keep installed

The 500GB option suits someone who keeps a few games installed and does not mind rotating them. It has the same basic PS4 Slim gaming capabilities as the 1TB option. Storage is a hard drive, not the fast SSD architecture used by PS5, so neither capacity should be mistaken for a performance upgrade to the newer generation.

The 1TB option gives more room for installations, patches and downloaded titles. That can be useful for a shared console or several large games, particularly when reinstalling would consume time or internet data. Available space is lower than the rated capacity because the system reserves part of the drive. The right choice depends on installation sizes rather than a fixed number of games.

The catalogue offers 500GB in Black or White and 1TB in Black. A finish does not change game compatibility or performance. For a shared console, more capacity can be more useful than buying around colour alone; for a focused collection, 500GB may be sufficient. Suitable USB extended storage provides another route to keeping more PS4 games installed.

Full HD gaming and HDR support

PS4 Slim is a Full HD-focused console, with output up to 1080p for gaming. Frame rate is game-dependent: the catalogue’s 60 fps capability is not a promise that every title runs at 60 fps. Many demanding games use lower frame-rate targets. Moving from 500GB to 1TB does not improve the frame rate or resolution.

HDR is supported with suitable system software, a compatible HDR display and supported content. HDR changes the presentation of brightness and colour; it does not turn PS4 Slim into a 4K console. The PlayStation 4 Pro offers additional graphics capability for supported PS4 games, while Slim prioritises a smaller enclosure.

Disc and digital games both use storage

The drive supports PS4 game discs, while digital purchases are downloaded through the relevant PlayStation account. Disc games still install to the hard drive and may require patches or downloads before all features are available. The original disc is normally needed when playing a physical-copy game.

For older PlayStation generations, do not assume disc compatibility: PS1, PS2 and PS3 discs are not a general playback route on PS4 Slim. Some older games have separate PS4 releases or digital versions, which must be checked individually. A familiar title name does not mean every platform’s edition will work.

DualShock 4 and local multiplayer

One DualShock 4 wireless controller is supplied. It combines vibration, a clickable touchpad, a built-in speaker and a headset connection, with features used differently by each game. Its rechargeable battery is charged using the appropriate USB connection. It does not have the adaptive triggers and advanced haptic system of the PS5 DualSense controller.

For supported couch multiplayer, add a DualShock 4 Wireless Controller for PlayStation 4. Check the number of local players supported by the game; buying a second controller does not make an online-only multiplayer mode work on one screen.

Movie playback, networking and subscriptions

PS4 Slim supports compatible Blu-ray and DVD movie discs, but not 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. It can also run supported entertainment apps, whose availability and subscription requirements depend on the service and region. It should not be purchased on the assumption that every streaming app will be supported indefinitely.

Ethernet and Wi-Fi provide network access for downloads, updates and online features. Most paid-game online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus, with exceptions such as some free-to-play games. Eligible offline PS4 games do not require a multiplayer subscription. Check account-region compatibility for digital vouchers and add-ons, especially when matching downloadable content to a disc edition.

Package and setup expectations

The listed configurations are 500GB in Black or White and 1TB in Black, each supplied with one controller. The standard retail kit includes the console, DualShock 4, HDMI cable, USB cable, power cord and mono headset. A vertical stand, second controller, PlayStation Camera and game bundles should not be assumed to be included.

The original Slim hardware specifications are documented in Sony’s official PS4 Slim announcement. That launch information establishes the hardware; current game and service availability should be checked separately. The official product video shows the redesigned console and is not a promise of historical launch pricing or game offers.
