Nintendo Switch 2 Overview

The Nintendo Switch 2 price in Kenya is KShs 83,500. This hybrid console brings Nintendo Switch 2 games to a 7.9-inch Full HD screen, detachable Joy-Con 2 controllers and an included dock for TV play. It suits buyers who want one system for handheld sessions, tabletop multiplayer and a shared living-room screen. Choose the Standard hardware package without a game, the Mario Kart World download bundle for racing, or Nintendo Switch Sports Resort for motion-based sports. Compared with the Nintendo Switch OLED Model, Switch 2 adds newer-system game support and higher display capabilities, while using an LCD rather than OLED panel.

Standard, Mario Kart World or Sports Resort?

The Standard package is the flexible choice if you already know which games you want to buy separately. Mario Kart World adds its named game as a full download, making it a natural starting point for a racing-focused household. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort instead adds its sports game download, with motion play that needs adequate clear space and wrist straps. These packages use the same 256GB Switch 2 platform; a bundled game does not add storage or processing power.

Download entitlements need a suitable Nintendo Account, internet access and the applicable regional redemption conditions. Some regional or later factory bundles also include a time-limited Nintendo Switch Online membership, but that should only be counted when it is expressly shown on the supplied package. Do not confuse a temporary membership with permanent online access or assume every Mario Kart World box is the same release.

Handheld, tabletop and TV play in one system

Attach the Joy-Con 2 controllers for handheld play, use the adjustable stand for tabletop sessions, or place the console in its dedicated dock for a compatible TV. These modes make it useful when a television is shared or when you want to carry the same game away from the main screen.

The console weighs approximately 534g with Joy-Con 2 attached. Tabletop mode can take that weight out of your hands, but requires a stable surface and a comfortable viewing distance. Some games need particular controller arrangements or accessories, so check the game rather than assuming every title supports every mode identically.

1080p LCD, higher refresh and TV output

The built-in 7.9-inch LCD has a 1920 × 1080 resolution, HDR10 support and variable refresh up to 120Hz. It offers a larger, higher-resolution handheld view than the original Switch family. It is not an OLED display, which is an important distinction if you are comparing it with Switch OLED.

TV output can reach 4K at up to 60fps, or up to 120fps at 1080p or 1440p with compatible games and displays. Those are maximum output capabilities, not universal game-performance promises. Use the included dock and suitable supplied HDMI connection, keep system software current and choose settings supported by your television.

Magnetic Joy-Con 2 and mouse controls

Joy-Con 2 attach magnetically to the console and can be used separately where the game supports that arrangement. Mouse controls add another input method in compatible games, while motion controls and HD Rumble 2 provide game-dependent interactions. Features only matter when the title is designed to use them.

The included pair can support two-player play in games that allow one controller per player; other games need a complete pair or another controller for each person. For longer TV sessions, the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is a separate option with a conventional full-size grip.

256GB storage and the microSD Express requirement

The system has 256GB of internal storage, with part reserved for system use. Digital purchases, updates and downloadable game data use the remaining space. If you plan a large download library, account for storage needs before buying multiple games at once.

Game-storage expansion requires a microSD Express card. An ordinary microSD card from an older Switch is not a substitute for installing Switch 2 games; non-Express cards have limited transfer uses such as copying older screenshots and videos. A supported card and the required system update are separate considerations from merely finding a card that physically fits.

Older Switch games and game-key cards

Switch 2 supports compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, but compatibility is not universal. Some games have limitations or require original accessories for particular features. Check Nintendo’s game-compatibility information before selling an older console or assuming a favourite title works exactly as before.

A game-key card is different from a card containing the full game data. It requires an initial internet download and sufficient storage, and the card must remain inserted when you play. That makes download access and available space relevant even when buying a boxed game. Read the game packaging and its download requirements carefully.

GameChat, GameShare and family play

The C button opens access to GameChat, with the console’s built-in microphone supporting voice use. Current GameChat requirements include a Nintendo Switch Online membership and the required Nintendo Account setup; a compatible USB camera is needed for video chat and is sold separately. Account, age and parental-control requirements also apply.

GameShare works only with supported games and should not be treated as a way to freely share every title. Local multiplayer, online multiplayer, GameChat and GameShare each have their own requirements. For a family purchase, check the intended game’s player count, controller needs and online-service terms before adding accessories.

Battery, charging and older accessories

Nintendo estimates roughly 2 to 6.5 hours of console battery life depending on the game and use conditions. Charging takes around three hours while the console is in sleep mode. The top USB-C port lets you connect charging power while the system is standing for tabletop play.

Use Switch 2-compatible charging and docking equipment, particularly for TV mode. Original Joy-Con can work wirelessly in supported situations but do not attach to Switch 2 and require their own compatible charging method. Joy-Con 2 and the Switch 2 Pro Controller are not controllers for the original Switch family.

Shared hardware and package-specific extras

Every listed package includes the Nintendo Switch 2 console, left and right Joy-Con 2, Switch 2 dock, AC adapter, USB-C charging cable, Joy-Con 2 grip, two Joy-Con 2 straps and Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. The included grip holds the controllers; it is not the separately sold charging grip. The Standard option has no game; the two named game bundles add their respective download. A camera, carrying case and microSD Express card are separate.

Start with the games you want, then add storage or extra controllers where those games require them. Consult Nintendo’s official Switch 2 specifications and Switch 2 FAQs for detailed requirements. The embedded video is Nintendo’s official system overview.

Redemption needs the applicable account, internet and regional conditions. A temporary online membership is only included when explicitly stated on the supplied factory box.

Does the package include the TV dock and charger?

Yes. The standard package includes the Switch 2 dock, AC adapter, USB-C charging cable and Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, along with the console and controller accessories.

No. Maximum 4K output is 60fps. Up to 120fps is supported at 1080p or 1440p where the game and display support it.

Can I use an ordinary microSD card for Switch 2 games?

No. Expanded game storage requires microSD Express. Ordinary microSD cards have limited transfer uses such as copying screenshots and videos from an older Switch.

How much internal storage is available?

The console has 256GB total storage, with part reserved for system use. Installed games, updates and other data use the remaining space.

Will my original Nintendo Switch games work?

Many compatible physical and digital Switch games work, but there are exceptions and limitations. Check Nintendo’s information for the specific game and required accessories.

Yes, in games that support one Joy-Con 2 per player. Other games require a pair or another complete controller for each player.

Does the included grip charge Joy-Con 2?

Is a camera needed for voice chat?

No. The console has a built-in microphone. A compatible USB camera is required for video chat and is sold separately.

How long does the console battery last?

Nintendo estimates approximately 2 to 6.5 hours depending on the game and usage conditions. Charging takes about three hours in sleep mode.

Can I reuse old Joy-Con controllers?

Original Joy-Con can connect wirelessly for supported uses, but cannot attach to Switch 2 and need an original-compatible charging method. Joy-Con 2 do not work on the original Switch family.
