DJI Mini 3 Drone Overview

The DJI Mini 3 price in Kenya is KShs 77,000. Mini 3 suits travellers and new aerial creators who want 4K HDR video and a camera that rotates for portrait filming. It offers a larger 1/1.3-inch sensor and brighter f/1.7 lens than the DJI Mini 4K Drone, while keeping the flight controls relatively straightforward.

Landscape and portrait footage from the same camera

The three-axis mechanical gimbal steadies the camera and rotates it into True Vertical Shooting. That is useful when you need both a wide landscape sequence and a portrait clip for a phone screen without simply cutting the sides off a horizontal frame. Video reaches 4K/30fps, with HDR available at 24, 25 and 30fps. For 60fps recording, step down to 2.7K or Full HD.

DJI’s current specifications list 12MP and 48MP photo options with JPEG and DNG RAW support. The 24mm-equivalent lens is a wide viewpoint; digital zoom crops the image rather than switching to a telephoto camera. Video uses an 8-bit Normal colour workflow, without D-Log or D-Cinelike. That makes Mini 3 better suited to straightforward filming and editing than demanding colour-matched production.

Three packages: choose the screen and battery count

  • Standard Kit (RC-N1): one battery and a phone-based remote. Use a compatible phone running DJI Fly as the screen. USB-C, Lightning and Micro-USB controller cables cover different connectors, but check app compatibility as well as the plug.
  • Standard Kit (DJI RC): one battery with DJI RC’s built-in display. Choose it if you want to keep your phone free and avoid mounting it for each flight.
  • Fly More Combo (DJI RC): the same screen-equipped controller with three standard batteries in total, a Two-Way Charging Hub, shoulder bag, extra propellers and screws, and an additional USB-C cable. It suits outings where you want to swap batteries and carry the kit together.

All three options use the same Mini 3 camera and aircraft. Standard kits include one spare propeller pair, six spare screws, screwdriver, gimbal protector and a Type-C PD cable. Fly More includes three spare propeller pairs and 18 screws. A mains charger and microSD card are not included in the factory kit lists. Select your exact option above to see its current price and availability.

Battery life without mixing up standard and Plus figures

The listed packages use standard Intelligent Flight Batteries, for which DJI quotes a maximum 38-minute flight and a 248g standard take-off weight. The separate Intelligent Flight Battery Plus can extend the maximum test figure to 51 minutes but raises aircraft weight to about 290g. Do not apply that Plus figure to the standard-battery kits on this page.

Both figures come from controlled tests until battery depletion. Real sessions need charge left for returning and landing, and are affected by wind, movement and conditions. Three batteries mean separate flights, not one continuous session. The charging hub charges batteries sequentially. DJI recommends a 30W USB-C PD charger and lists about 56 minutes for one standard battery in the hub or 64 minutes inside the aircraft under its test conditions.

Know the limits before choosing your first drone

Mini 3 supports QuickShots such as Dronie, Circle and Helix, plus panoramas and Return to Home. It does not have ActiveTrack continuous subject following or omnidirectional obstacle avoidance. Downward vision assists positioning; it does not protect the front or sides from trees, walls and wires. Plan open routes and set a suitable return path yourself.

If automated subject following and more capable sensing are priorities, compare the DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone. Mini 3’s name should not be confused with Mini 3 Pro either: their flight and camera feature sets differ.

Storage and preparation

There is no internal aircraft media storage, so add a supported microSD card for original photos and video. Charge the flight battery and controller, activate through DJI Fly, and check updates before heading out. Keep the drone dry and avoid treating a maximum wind-resistance figure as a beginner flying target. For the full camera modes and recommended cards, consult DJI’s official Mini 3 specifications.

True Vertical ShootingThe gimbal rotates the camera for portrait footage as well as landscape recording.
4K HDR cameraA 1/1.3-inch sensor and f/1.7 lens support 4K/30fps HDR and RAW photo editing.
Choose your flight screenRC-N1 uses your compatible phone; DJI RC has a built-in screen.
One or three standard batteriesFly More adds battery swaps, a sequential charging hub and shoulder bag.
Up to 38-minute test flightThe included standard battery supports the quoted maximum; real filming time needs a return reserve.
Small folding designDJI lists 248g in the standard configuration, making the aircraft easy to pack.

  • Requires microSD storage and a separate suitable mains charger.
Which Mini 3 package should I choose?

Choose RC-N1 if you want to use a compatible phone as the display, Standard DJI RC for a built-in screen with one battery, or Fly More DJI RC for the same screen controller plus three standard batteries, a hub and bag. Camera quality is unchanged.

Does Mini 3 shoot true vertical video?

Yes. Its gimbal rotates the camera for portrait capture, so it is not just cropping the sides of a horizontal recording.

Can it follow a moving subject with ActiveTrack?

No. Mini 3 has QuickShots for preset short camera movements, but not ActiveTrack continuous subject following. Compare a Pro model if following is essential.

Does it detect obstacles in front or at the sides?

No. Its downward vision assists positioning. It does not have forward or omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, so keep the route and Return to Home path clear.

Are the included batteries rated for 38 or 51 minutes?

The listed kits use standard batteries, rated for up to 38 minutes in controlled tests. The separate Plus battery reaches a 51-minute test figure and increases aircraft weight to about 290g. Neither number guarantees real filming duration.

Does the Fly More Combo include a mains charger?

It includes the charging hub and cables, but not a mains power adapter. DJI recommends a 30W USB-C PD charger. The hub charges batteries sequentially.

Do I need a microSD card?

Yes, for original camera recordings. Mini 3 has no internal aircraft media storage. Use a supported card from DJI’s recommended list rather than relying on phone or controller preview files.

Can Mini 3 record 4K/60fps or D-Log?

No. 4K reaches 30fps; 2.7K and Full HD reach 60fps. Video uses an 8-bit Normal profile, without D-Log or D-Cinelike.

Is Mini 3 the same as Mini 3 Pro?

No. They are separate models with different capabilities. The controller package on this page changes the screen and accessories, not the aircraft into a Pro version.
