Nintendo Switch (V2) Special Editions Overview
The Nintendo Switch (V2) Special Editions price in Kenya is KShs 37,000 – KShs 49,500Price range: KShs 37,000 through KShs 49,500. These themed original-Switch consoles bring distinctive Joy-Con and dock designs to the same flexible TV, tabletop and handheld experience. They suit fans who want a console reflecting Animal Crossing, Mario, Monster Hunter, Fortnite or Dragon Quest, while retaining the familiar 6.2-inch LCD and detachable controls. Compare the standard Nintendo Switch (V2) if artwork is less important than the core gaming experience.
Five editions, with different designs and bundle histories
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Edition pairs pastel green and pastel blue Joy-Con with a white dock featuring Tom Nook, Timmy and Tommy. Mario Red & Blue Edition instead uses a red console and dock, red Joy-Con and blue accents. Its original retail package added a themed carrying case and screen protector; it was not a bundle containing Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. These are the 6.2-inch LCD models, not the later Mario Red OLED console.
Monster Hunter Rise Edition features Magnamalo artwork and decorative patterns across the dock, console and controllers. Nintendo’s original UK bundle included a Rise download and Deluxe Kit DLC. That historical bundle should not be confused with a separate Monster Hunter Pro Controller or the later Sunbreak expansion.
Fortnite Wildcat Edition uses a yellow left Joy-Con, blue right Joy-Con and Fortnite-themed console and dock. Nintendo’s launch bundle paired the hardware with Wildcat bonus content and 2,000 V-Bucks. Fortnite itself is free to download; the special attraction was the artwork and redeemable extras, not an exclusive ability to play Fortnite.
Dragon Quest XI S Loto Edition is the blue-themed collector option. Its design and original regional software package distinguish it from the other editions, rather than faster graphics or extra storage. Imported software can have different language and account-region requirements, so a console’s language setting alone does not establish the languages available in its bundled game.
Game inclusion is not uniform across these editions or regions. For example, Nintendo sold Animal Crossing hardware with the game separately in North America, while other regional bundles included it. The edition names here identify the themed hardware; a launch promotion, unused download code, bonus currency or regional game entitlement is not automatically guaranteed for every supplied unit. Confirm those extras with NextBuy if they are essential to your purchase.
What V2 means—and what it does not
V2 refers to Nintendo’s revised HAC-001(-01) Switch hardware introduced in 2019. The important change from the launch model is improved efficiency and a quoted battery-life range of approximately 4.5–9 hours. It is still part of the original Switch family, using the same game library and familiar detachable Joy-Con design.
It is not Nintendo Switch 2, a 4K upgrade or a new generation of game compatibility. If you want titles exclusive to the newer platform, compare the Nintendo Switch 2 before choosing. The V2 name should help identify the revision, not create an expectation that newer-generation games will run.
Move between a television and the built-in screen
The included dock and HDMI cable connect the console to a compatible TV, with video output up to 1080p. Lift the console from the dock and attach the Joy-Con to continue in handheld mode on its 6.2-inch 1280 × 720 LCD touchscreen. Actual rendering resolution and frame rate depend on each game.
For tabletop play, open the rear kickstand and use the controllers separately. It is convenient for occasional play on a table, although the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model has a larger screen and a wider adjustable stand. If most of your sessions are docked, the V2’s smaller LCD is less central to the experience.
Detachable Joy-Con and shared gaming
The package includes a left and right Joy-Con plus a grip and wrist straps. Use both controllers together, attach them to the console, or share one with a second player in games that support that arrangement. Motion controls, HD Rumble and the right Joy-Con’s IR Motion Camera support features used by compatible games.
Two Joy-Con do not automatically mean every two-player game is ready without more hardware. Some titles need a full controller per player, and others impose specific accessory requirements. Plan around the games your household actually plays rather than buying extra controllers solely from the player count on a console advertisement.
32GB storage and physical or digital games
The V2 console has 32GB internal storage, with a portion reserved for system use. It accepts Nintendo Switch game cards and supports digital downloads. Physical games may still need space for updates and downloadable content, so a game card does not remove all storage requirements.
A compatible microSD card provides additional room for downloaded software and is sold separately. If you expect to keep several large games installed, include a memory card in your budget. This console is intended for Nintendo Switch software; choose the correct platform version when a game is also sold for other systems.
Battery life, charging and networking
Nintendo’s approximately 4.5–9-hour battery estimate varies with the game, brightness and usage. It is more useful as a range for planning than a promise of nine hours in demanding games. The supplied Nintendo Switch AC adapter powers the dock or charges the console directly, and charging in sleep mode takes approximately three hours.
Wi-Fi supports downloads and online play. The standard V2 dock does not have the built-in Ethernet port found on the OLED dock; wired networking requires an appropriate separate LAN adapter. A wired connection can improve consistency in some homes but cannot guarantee low latency when the internet connection or game server is the limiting factor.
Subscriptions, accounts and family setup
Many single-player games and local multiplayer modes work without a paid online subscription. Nintendo Switch Online is generally required for online multiplayer in supported paid games, while individual titles can have exceptions. Download purchases, add-on content and services should match the Nintendo Account region and the game’s requirements.
When replacing another Switch, arrange user and save-data transfer before parting with the old system. Parents can also set purchase restrictions and play controls during setup. Those steps make the console easier to manage as a shared household device and help avoid buying software against the wrong account.
Core hardware and useful additions
Each edition uses a themed V2 console, matching Joy-Con pair and dock, plus a Joy-Con grip, two wrist straps, Nintendo Switch AC adapter and HDMI cable. The edition-specific box entries separate this hardware from regional software and promotional extras. A compatible microSD card is a useful addition for a download-heavy library.
Use a case and screen protector sized for the standard 6.2-inch Switch. See Nintendo’s official Switch overview for its three play modes. The independent Digital Foundry video explains the underlying 2019 revision, while the Mario Red & Blue unboxing illustrates that edition’s original package. A video of a launch bundle does not establish the software codes supplied with every regional unit.
