It suits a larger TV setup where you want Dolby Atmos and DTS:X capability while keeping the initial installation at the front of the room. What 5.1.3 means on the LG S90TY

The system combines front and side channels in the bar, a subwoofer channel and three upward-firing channels, including an up-firing centre. It supports compatible Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks. The side channels are in the soundbar; the standard package does not place speakers physically behind your seat.

Height effects depend on the soundtrack, ceiling and seating position. Keep the top of the bar unobstructed rather than putting it inside a closed shelf. A very high or irregular ceiling can change the result, and the channel count alone cannot guarantee the same experience in every room.

Wireless subwoofer and optional rear expansion

The supplied subwoofer receives audio wirelessly but needs mains power, as does the bar. LG’s manual specifies 570W total RMS output using 10% THD test conditions. The measurement conditions matter when comparing this figure with another brand’s peak or lower-distortion rating.

If a console or PC needs video capabilities beyond the bar’s supported path, connect it directly to a suitable TV input and use eARC for audio. Check the exact television, source, cable and video mode rather than relying on the words HDMI 2.1 alone.

Room calibration, speech and compatible LG TVs

AI Room Calibration Pro adjusts the system for the listening space through the supported app. Clear Voice Pro and selectable sound modes provide further control for dialogue, films, sport and music. Calibration is useful after placing the bar and subwoofer, but it does not remove the need for sensible positioning.

WOW Orchestra and WOW Interface add functions with supported LG televisions. Compatibility varies by model and software; other TV brands can still provide audio through HDMI or optical. Check exact TV support before making an LG-specific feature the deciding reason to buy.

Wi-Fi music and practical placement

Wi-Fi adds supported services including AirPlay 2, Chromecast/Google Cast and Spotify Connect, alongside Bluetooth 5.1 and USB. Service availability, accounts, subscriptions and software can vary by region. “Works with” a voice platform should not be mistaken for an unrestricted built-in voice assistant.
