DJI RS 4 Mini Overview
The DJI RS 4 Mini price in Kenya is KShs 55,500. This compact camera stabiliser suits solo videographers who want smoother walk-throughs, controlled product reveals and vertical social content without carrying a full-size rig. Its 2kg tested payload, automatic axis locks and quick portrait conversion make sense for a balanced mirrorless setup. If you use heavier lenses or expect to build out the camera, compare the larger DJI RS 4 before choosing the smaller body.
A lighter rig that still needs a compatible camera
The gimbal weighs approximately 890g including its quick-release plate, before adding the tripod or camera. This makes it practical for travelling creators and small production teams moving between locations. The supported camera-and-lens load is 0.4–2kg, but weight alone does not establish compatibility: the lens must clear the arms and the complete setup must balance.
Check your camera, lens and required control functions against DJI’s official compatibility list. Include filters, microphones and other mounted accessories in your setup assessment. A long front-heavy lens can be more difficult to balance than a compact combination of similar weight.
Faster setup between takes
Second-generation automatic axis locks reduce the manual steps involved in starting, sleeping and packing the stabiliser. Teflon interlayers on the pan and roll axes reduce sliding friction during balancing, while the fine-tuning adjustment helps position the camera accurately. These conveniences save time, but they do not remove the need to balance the camera before motor calibration.
The 1.4-inch colour touchscreen gives access to operating settings, with a joystick, trigger and front dial for direct handling. Bluetooth shutter and zoom control depend on the camera; the included USB-C camera-control cable provides another connection route for supported models. Do not assume every dial function works with every lens.
Horizontal footage and vertical social content
The third-generation native vertical arrangement lets you reposition the mounting assembly for portrait footage without an extra vertical cage. It is useful when a job needs both a landscape interview and short vertical clips. Recheck balance and cable clearance after changing orientation, especially with a longer lens.
Smooth follow suits deliberate pans and slower reveals. Responsive follow reacts more quickly to your hand movements for faster orbit shots. Pan Follow, Pan and Tilt Follow, FPV and 3D Roll 360 provide different movement styles; choose a mode that serves the shot rather than adding rotation to every clip. Three-axis stabilisation does not remove the up-and-down motion of walking.
What the tracking module changes
The DJI RS Intelligent Tracking Module adds human-subject tracking and framing assistance. It is useful for a presenter moving around a fixed setup or for keeping someone composed during an orbit. DJI specifies a tracking distance of 0.5–10m with illumination above 20 lux; the subject still needs to remain visible.
Tracking works in Pan Follow and Pan and Tilt Follow modes, rather than FPV. Gesture control can start or stop tracking and adjust framing. The module steers the gimbal; your camera still handles focus, exposure and recording. It is included in the Combo and both listed Creator packages, but not in Standard.
Choose the package for the job
Standard includes the core stabiliser, quick-release plate, tripod, screw kit and cables. Choose it when you will operate the camera yourself and already have the audio equipment you need. Combo adds the Intelligent Tracking Module and RS 4 Mini Briefcase Handle, which is useful for lower camera positions and an alternative grip.
Creator Combo builds on Combo with the dedicated RS 4 Mini Phone Holder, making it the relevant package for switching between a compatible camera and a phone. The separately named Creator Combo (DJI Mic 3, 2 TX + 1 RX + Charging Case) instead pairs the tracking-equipped gimbal kit with the two-transmitter Mic 3 system for interviews and dialogue. Its official box list does not include the phone holder.
For phone-only filming, the DJI Osmo Mobile 8 is a different, more phone-focused approach. Choose RS 4 Mini when supporting a camera is central to your work; adding a phone holder does not give it every Osmo Mobile feature.
Battery life and planning a filming day
The built-in 3100mAh battery has a stated maximum of thirteen hours with the balanced gimbal stationary. Moving operation reduces that figure. DJI quotes approximately one hour fifty minutes for a full charge using a 30W charger under its test conditions; a wall charger is not listed in these packages.
The battery is not a swappable grip, so plan charging breaks for long assignments. Keep the camera’s own battery, memory cards and microphone power in your checklist too. For a larger rig with a removable grip and newer tracking options, also consider the DJI RS 5. Full measurements are available in the official RS 4 Mini specifications.

What cameras can DJI RS 4 Mini carry?
DJI specifies a tested load of 0.4–2kg. Check the exact camera-and-lens combination, balance, physical clearance and supported controls on DJI’s compatibility list; being below 2kg alone is not enough.
Does Standard include the tracking module?
No. Standard supplies the core gimbal kit. Combo, Creator Combo and the listed DJI Mic 3 Creator Combo include the RS Intelligent Tracking Module.
What is the difference between Combo and Creator Combo?
Combo adds the Intelligent Tracking Module and Briefcase Handle to the core kit. The ordinary Creator Combo also includes the RS 4 Mini Phone Holder.
Does the DJI Mic 3 Creator Combo include a phone holder?
The official box list includes the tracking module, Briefcase Handle and DJI Mic 3 two-transmitter kit, but not the RS 4 Mini Phone Holder. Do not confuse it with the ordinary Creator Combo.
Can I use RS 4 Mini with a smartphone?
Yes, with the dedicated compatible phone holder and a properly balanced setup. The ordinary Creator Combo includes that holder; it is not listed in the other three packages.
Can it record vertical video?
Yes. Its native vertical mounting arrangement allows portrait camera positioning. Recheck balance and ensure cables do not obstruct the moving arms after changing orientation.
Does tracking work in every mode?
No. DJI specifies human tracking in Pan Follow and Pan and Tilt Follow, not FPV. The module’s stated operating distance is 0.5–10m with illumination above 20 lux.
Does the tracking module focus the camera?
No. It helps steer the gimbal to maintain framing. Camera autofocus, exposure and supported recording control remain separate considerations.
How long does the battery last?
DJI quotes up to thirteen hours with the balanced gimbal stationary. Real filming movement reduces runtime, so treat that figure as a test maximum rather than a guarantee for continuous active use.
Can I replace the battery grip during a shoot?
The RS 4 Mini battery is built in and is not a removable grip. Plan time to recharge rather than relying on swapping battery handles.
How long does charging take?
Approximately one hour fifty minutes under DJI’s test conditions using a 30W charger. A wall charger is not included in the official package lists shown here.
Will Bluetooth control my camera’s shutter and zoom?
That depends on the camera and lens. Check the specific supported functions in DJI’s compatibility list; USB-C wired control is also available for compatible cameras.
Is this suitable for heavier professional rigs?
It is designed around compact setups within its 2kg tested limit. RS 4 or RS 5 provide a 3kg class alternative, while RS 4 Pro supports larger builds; always check physical compatibility as well as payload.
