DJI Osmo Mobile 8P Overview
The DJI Osmo Mobile 8P price in Kenya is KShs 26,000. This smartphone gimbal suits creators who need to film themselves, follow moving subjects and check framing without standing behind the phone. Three-axis stabilisation, a detachable Osmo FrameTap screen remote and a built-in extension rod make it useful for walk-through videos, demonstrations and solo presentations. If remote framing is not a priority, compare the DJI Osmo Mobile 8 before choosing your filming kit.
Frame yourself with the Osmo FrameTap remote
The detachable 1.4-inch touchscreen is the practical reason to choose the DJI Osmo Mobile 8P. Put the phone on a stable surface, step into your shot and adjust the gimbal without repeatedly returning to the handle. You can control recording, change between portrait and landscape orientation and refine composition from the remote. Its magnetic attachment keeps it on the handle when you are filming behind the camera.
Phone screen mirroring and the tracking module’s camera feed are different views. Supported Android phones can mirror directly; iPhone screen mirroring uses DJI Mimo. With Multifunctional Module 2 fitted, its own feed lets you select a tracking subject on FrameTap. That module view should not be mistaken for an exact preview of the phone camera’s lens or crop.
Choose the tracking method for your phone and app
ActiveTrack 8.0 works through DJI Mimo. It is useful when you want the app to follow a presenter or moving subject while you concentrate on the movement of the shot. Apple DockKit provides another route on compatible iPhones, enabling tracking in the native camera and supported third-party apps. DockKit, Mimo tracking and module tracking are alternative methods rather than features you stack together.
The DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2 adds its own tracking camera, gesture control and adjustable fill light. It supports people, pets and vehicles, plus manually selected objects with clear outlines and enough contrast. A small object lost against a busy background will be harder to follow; tracking is not a guarantee that every fast movement or obstruction will be recovered.
Standard, Advanced Tracking or Creator Combo?
The Standard Combo includes the gimbal, Magnetic Phone Clamp 5, Osmo FrameTap, two USB-C cables and storage pouch. Choose it for stabilised phone filming, Mimo tracking and supported DockKit use when you do not need the separate module or an included wireless microphone.
The Advanced Tracking Combo adds Multifunctional Module 2. It is the more useful package for filming in other camera apps with module-based tracking, or for adding a small light to a nearby face. The Creator Combo includes that tracking package and a DJI Mic Mini 2 transmitter with a DJI Mic Series Mobile Receiver and microphone accessories. Choose Creator for spoken demonstrations or presentations where microphone placement matters as much as smooth footage. These packages change the accessories, not the core stabilisation motors.
Smooth movement, low angles and a built-in stand
Three-axis stabilisation controls unwanted rotation as you move. Unlimited horizontal pan rotation helps with circling subjects and continuous pans, while the 215mm extension rod gives more reach for self-filming and elevated views. Tilting the pan axis forward also makes low shots of pets or products easier. A gimbal still benefits from gentle footsteps: it cannot remove every vertical bounce or compensate for poor lighting.
The integrated tripod saves carrying a separate tabletop stand. Use it on a level, stable surface in calm conditions. For a taller viewpoint or more demanding placement, the bottom 1/4-inch mounting point accepts a suitable external tripod. Fold the extension rod away after filming rather than storing it extended.
Check the phone, case and accessories together
DJI specifies phones weighing 170–300g, measuring 67–84mm wide and 6.9–11mm thick. Include your case and any lens attachment when assessing fit and load. A phone that physically fits may still have different recording or mirroring support in Mimo, so consult the official DJI compatibility and setup guidance for your model.
The magnetic clamp attaches near the centre of the phone. An oversized camera attachment can affect balance, and an ultrawide lens may see part of the gimbal if the clamp is poorly positioned. This is a smartphone stabiliser; a mirrorless camera requires a camera gimbal such as the DJI RS 4 Mini and a separately checked camera-and-lens combination.
Battery life, phone charging and practical limits
The 3350mAh battery is rated for approximately ten hours under DJI’s balanced, stationary test conditions. With Module 2 tracking active, DJI quotes about five hours with the light off and four with the light at maximum. Supplying power to your phone reduces operating time further. Full gimbal charging takes about 2.5 hours under the specified test conditions.
The USB-C output can help keep a phone running through a recording session, while the handle port charges the gimbal. Allow for the phone’s heat, storage and battery consumption during long shoots. Neither the gimbal nor FrameTap is waterproof, so protect both from rain and splashes. The official DJI specifications provide the test conditions and remote transmission limits.

Does the Standard Combo include Osmo FrameTap?
Yes. The detachable Osmo FrameTap remote is included in the Standard, Advanced Tracking and Creator Combos. The Standard Combo does not include Multifunctional Module 2 or the Creator microphone equipment.
What does the Advanced Tracking Combo add?
It adds DJI OM Multifunctional Module 2 to the Standard Combo. This provides module-based tracking, gesture control and a small adjustable fill light, plus a module camera feed on Osmo FrameTap.
Who should choose the Creator Combo?
Choose it for spoken videos where a wireless microphone is useful. It includes the Advanced Tracking equipment plus a DJI Mic Mini 2 transmitter, DJI Mic Series Mobile Receiver and microphone accessories.
Will my phone fit with its case attached?
Check the combined dimensions and weight. DJI specifies 67–84mm width, 6.9–11mm thickness and 170–300g weight. A thick case or heavy external lens may put an otherwise suitable phone outside those limits.
Can I track a subject without using DJI Mimo?
Yes, through compatible Apple DockKit apps on supported iPhones, or using Multifunctional Module 2 with other camera apps. The separate module is included in Advanced Tracking and Creator, not Standard.
Which iPhones support DockKit tracking?
DJI lists iPhone 12 series and later with iOS 18.5 or newer, excluding iPhone SE third generation and iPhone 16e. Check DJI’s current compatibility guidance for your exact phone and app.
Does FrameTap show the exact phone camera image?
Phone screen mirroring shows the phone interface; supported Android phones mirror directly, while iPhones use DJI Mimo. Module 2 video transmission instead shows the module camera’s view for subject selection, which is not the same lens view as the phone.
Can it track products or vehicles?
Multifunctional Module 2 supports vehicles and manually selected general objects as well as people and pets. General objects need clear outlines, contrast and sufficient size in the frame; difficult backgrounds and obstructions can limit tracking.
How long does the battery last while tracking?
DJI quotes approximately five hours with Module 2 tracking and its light off, or four hours with tracking and maximum light brightness. The ten-hour figure uses a different stationary test. Phone charging and actual shooting conditions reduce runtime.
Can the gimbal charge my phone?
Yes. Connect a compatible phone using the roll-axis USB-C output and suitable cable. This uses the gimbal battery. The separate handle USB-C port is used to recharge the gimbal itself.
Can I use the built-in tripod outdoors?
Use it on a stable, level surface in windless conditions. A suitable external tripod is preferable for less controlled placement. Neither the gimbal nor FrameTap is waterproof.
Does a camera or smartphone come with it?
No smartphone is included. DJI Osmo Mobile 8P stabilises a compatible phone that you supply; it is not a standalone recording camera or a mirrorless-camera gimbal.
What changes compared with DJI Osmo Mobile 8?
The 8P adds Osmo FrameTap, supports the newer Multifunctional Module 2, uses Magnetic Phone Clamp 5 and has a revised tripod. The remote is especially useful if you regularly film yourself using the rear camera.
Does it remove all walking bounce?
No. Its three axes reduce rotational shake, but vertical movement can remain. Use controlled footsteps, a secure grip and suitable camera settings for the smoothest result.
