Compared with PlayStation 4 Slim, the Pro offers more graphics capability; choose a PlayStation 5 if your priorities include PS5-only releases and SSD-based loading.

What the Pro adds to PS4 games

PS4 Pro remains part of the PS4 platform. It runs PS4 games, with supported titles offering improvements such as higher rendering resolutions, additional visual detail or performance-focused modes. The improvement depends on the game and its patch, so the Pro name is not a promise of the same upgrade in every title.

It is particularly relevant when choosing games with published Pro support. A cinematic adventure may emphasise image clarity, while another game offers a smoother mode. Look at the modes in the games you want rather than buying solely around the largest resolution number.

4K and HDR: match the console to the screen

The console can output 4K and HDR to suitable equipment. Games may use native rendering, reconstruction or other techniques, so 4K output does not mean every game renders every frame natively at that resolution. A compatible 4K HDR screen and correctly configured HDMI input are needed to see those features. 1TB storage and installations
